ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

· Cold weather is unusual for summers in Alabama though should it rain on our trip there is the possibility of cooling temps especially in the evenings.  Prepare for the possibility of cold while packing.  Dressing in layers (ex. T-shirt under long sleeve shirt or fleece under rain jacket) is better to one bulky over coat or rain jacket.

· Rain gear should be sturdy.  The rain suits you can buy at the big department stores tend to rip rather quickly.

· It is preferable that participant have at least one layer of clothing that is non-cotton material (nylon, wool, polypropylene, etc) as cotton readily absorbs moisture and dries slowly.  Clothes that are worn during the day that get wet will not retain heat in the evenings (ex. Cotton hoodies/sweatshirts soak up moisture like a sponge)

· Pack clothes and other gear you want to keep dry in sturdy ziplock bags or trash bags, the large gallon size ziplocks work great, and bring along a few extra just in case.

· All items that are not needed while we are paddling during the day will be stored in dry bags provided by Camp McDowell.  Space in these bags is limited so please pack accordingly.  Bulky items (ex. sleeping bags, large bowls and cups, big rain coats) are not a good idea.

· Either a personal drybag or a couple of ziplock bags are a good idea for things like cameras and sunscreen that you might want to have handy but don’t want to get wet.

· After arriving at camp we will be doing a gear shakedown before we pack drybags.  During this time we will make sure you have all the stuff you need and none of the stuff you don’t for the trip.

· We have a small amount of rental gear available should you need to borrow something.  Please let me know prior to your arrival at camp of anything on the WHAT TO BRING list that you are having troubles with and we will see if we can accommodate you.
