  • Session Director: The Rev. Paul Pradat from St. Thomas Huntsville

  • Cost: $155 per person ($310 for a youth/guardian pair)
  • Check In: Friday, May 24, 2019 at 3pm
  • Check Out: The session ends Sunday May 26 at 12:30 pm. We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Sunday morning, and lunch following immediately after.

Venture out is a program to encourage individuals to participate in wilderness backpacking and to experience the physical and mental health benefits it provides. We want to help people to not only discover the natural beauty of our country but to understand the benefits of time spent in nature and to feel the freedom of going off the grid.

We offer three different trips.

  • June 1-4 is for 8th grade through 12th grade at a cost of only $250.
  • June 9 - 13 for 8th through 12th grade at a cost of $275.
  • June 14-17 for Family Venture Out at a cost of $195 per person.

  • Session Director: The Rev. Geoff Evans from Holy Trinity, Auburn will be joined by The Rev. Jack Alvey from The Church of the Ascension, Vestavia Hills
  • Cost: $325 - all payments and forms due May 19
  • Check In: Wednesday May 29, 2019 from 3pm - 5pm at the Welcome Center
  • Check Out: Camp will conclude with a closing Eucharist on Sunday morning June 2 at 9:00 am at the Chapel of St. Francis up the hill. Families and Friends are invited and encouraged to attend. Campers can be picked up and packed up immediately following the service. If you are unable to attend the service then camper pick-up will begin at 10:30 and we ask that all campers are picked up no later than 10:45 am.

  • About: Typical kids AND kids with disabilities experience summer camp fun together in Bethany Village. It’s the way the world could be!
  • Session Director: The Rev. Aaron Raulerson from Church of the Epiphany in Guntersville. In addition, The Rev. Robin Hinkle from St. Mary's in Jasper will serve as the Upper-Camp Chaplain
  • Cost: $350 - all payments due May 26.
  • Check In: Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm in Doug Carpenter Hall in Bethany Village
  • Check Out: We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Sunday June 9 at 9am in Hall Hall in Bethany Village. Camper family members and guardians are invited to attend. Campers check out following the service around 10am.

July 28, 2019 - July 31, 2019

Join us during the summertime for the Alabama Folk School's only camp designed just for youth (rising 5th - 12th graders)! Youth Folk Camp is a unique combination of summer overnight camp, community and folk school instruction in fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, pottery, painting, carpentry, farming and more! Campers may choose one major and minor class for the workshop, all taught by master musicians and artists. Campers will select the major class from the list below and the minor class on the first day of camp. In between their classes, campers will enjoy a variety of activities with camp friends including swimming, paddle boating, hiking, and the ropes course. A Camper Showcase for family and friends will be held on the last day. Experience in fiddle and guitar is required for the music classes. Beginner students may select music classes as their minor.

September 6, 2019 5pm - September 8, 2019 1pm

Hiking, canoeing, campfires, and marshmallows! It’s quality time for all combinations and interpretations of fathers and sons (parent, godparent, grandparent, uncle, family friend, etc)! Recommended for 1st grade and older with an adult. Enjoy that all-elusive quality time at beautiful Camp McDowell with the father or son in your life!

  • Ages: Rising 1st and up (and their adult guardian 18 or older)
  • Cost: $135 per person ($270 for a youth/guardian pair)
  • Check In: Friday, September 6, 2019 at 5pm. Dinner is served at 6:30
  • Check Out: The session ends Sunday September 8 at 1 pm, We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Sunday morning, then a great game of kickball, and lunch following immediately after.

Rest and renew in a community of women at the McDowell Women’s Retreat. Fresh fall air and fellowship await you! Housing is in comfortable Miller Commons lodges; delicious meals served in Stough Dining Hall.

It’s all the fun of SUMMER CAMP...in the fall! Join us in Clear Creek (“Lower Camp”) for group games, hiking, singing, s'mores and friends! Halloween costumes are encouraged for the Pasture Party and friends are ALWAYS welcome! Join us for this awesome weekend at wonderful, wonderful Camp McDowell!

  • Cost: $135 per person
  • Check In: Friday, October 25 - 27, 2019 at 5pm (Dinner is at 6:30)

November 22, 2019 5pm - November 24, 2019 1pm

All combinations of families are invited for a special weekend of fresh air, farm food, and quality time in the beauty of God's Backyard! Spend time time together as you harvest vegetables and feed the pigs, cut firewood, prepare and share a farm to table meal, learn sustainable practices for home, and enjoy a “Garden to Glass” class (while the kids are at "Kids Camp"). Family Farm to Table Retreat is a beautiful and fun way to reconnect with God’s creation and each other the weekend before Thanksgiving! Recommended for 1st grade and up.

Through grants and partnerships, we are able to offer one day, three-day, and even week-long workshops to help teachers connect their subject area to the natural world, focusing on their local places. We call this Place-Based Education!
