  • Ages: Rising 7th - 8th graders
  • Session Directors: The Rev. Josiah Rengers from St. Thomas in Birmingham and The Rev. Jeremy Carlson from St. Mary's-On-The-Highlands in Birmingham
  • Cost: $570 - all payments due Tuesday July 9
  • Check In: Friday July 19, 2019 at 3pm
  • Check Out: We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Friday morning July 26 at at 9:00 am at the Chapel of St. Francis up the hill. Families and Friends are invited and encouraged to attend. During this service, families will have an opportunity to donate to the Camp McDowell scholarship fund. Campers can be picked up and packed up immediately following the service. If you are unable to attend the service then camper pick-up will begin at 10:30 and we ask that all campers are picked up no later than 10:45 am.

  • Cost: $285 - all payments due Wednesday July 18
  • Check In: Friday July 28, 2019 at 3pm
  • Check Out: We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Friday morning July 31 at 9:00am. Camper family members and guardians are invited to attend. The session ends Friday morning July 26 at 10:00 am.

July 28, 2019 - July 31, 2019

Join us during the summertime for the Alabama Folk School's only camp designed just for youth (rising 5th - 12th graders)! Youth Folk Camp is a unique combination of summer overnight camp, community and folk school instruction in fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, pottery, painting, carpentry, farming and more! Campers may choose one major and minor class for the workshop, all taught by master musicians and artists. Campers will select the major class from the list below and the minor class on the first day of camp. In between their classes, campers will enjoy a variety of activities with camp friends including swimming, paddle boating, hiking, and the ropes course. A Camper Showcase for family and friends will be held on the last day. Experience in fiddle and guitar is required for the music classes. Beginner students may select music classes as their minor.

  • Cost: $370 (additional $20 materials fee if you choose to take the Ceramics or Painting class)

  • Cost: $155 per person ($310 for a youth/guardian pair)
  • Check In: Friday, August 2, 2019 at 3pm
  • Check Out: The session ends Sunday August 4 at 12:30 pm. We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Sunday morning, and lunch following immediately after. The session ends at 12:30 following lunch.

August 30, 2019 - September 1, 2019

Farm and folk workshops, traditional camp activities, jam sessions and more will be featured during this Labor Day weekend getaway for individuals and families at Camp McDowell!

Join us in community Labor Day weekend at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, Alabama. The weekend will be full of opportunities to reconnect with your heritage and obtain forgotten knowledge leading you back to your roots.

September 6, 2019 5pm - September 8, 2019 1pm

Hiking, canoeing, campfires, and marshmallows! It’s quality time for all combinations and interpretations of fathers and sons (parent, godparent, grandparent, uncle, family friend, etc)! Recommended for 1st grade and older with an adult. Enjoy that all-elusive quality time at beautiful Camp McDowell with the father or son in your life!

  • Cost: $135 per person ($270 for a youth/guardian pair)
  • Check In: Friday, September 6, 2019 at 5pm. Dinner is served at 6:30
  • Check Out: The session ends Sunday September 8 at 1 pm, We will have a closing worship service with Eucharist Sunday morning, then a great game of kickball, and lunch following immediately after.

Rest and renew in a community of women at the McDowell Women’s Retreat. Fresh fall air and fellowship await you! Housing is in comfortable Miller Commons lodges; delicious meals served in Stough Dining Hall.

It’s all the fun of SUMMER CAMP...in the fall! Join us in Clear Creek (“Lower Camp”) for group games, hiking, singing, s'mores and friends! Halloween costumes are encouraged for the Pasture Party and friends are ALWAYS welcome! Join us for this awesome weekend at wonderful, wonderful Camp McDowell!

November 22, 2019 5pm - November 24, 2019 1pm

All combinations of families are invited for a special weekend of fresh air, farm food, and quality time in the beauty of God's Backyard! Spend time together as you harvest vegetables and feed the pigs, cut firewood, prepare and share a farm to table meal, learn sustainable practices for home, and enjoy a “Garden to Glass” class (while the kids are at "Kids Camp"). Family Farm to Table Retreat is a beautiful and fun way to reconnect with God’s creation and each other the weekend before Thanksgiving! Recommended for 1st grade and up.
